I received the Elemis Fresh Skin range back in April and I wanted to give the products a proper test before I decided to review them, so now I have used up most of the products and I am now ready to give a proper review!
Elemis has aimed to launch this as an affordable skincare range and prices range from £8-£22 which I think isn't too expensive compared to their other products but these have been aimed at younger skin, so teenagers to mid 20's who want a skincare regime without any fussy anti-ageing claims or anything that is going to be too heavy, so I think for teenagers who are looking for a touch of luxury than just the usual drugstore brands, this range is perfect. I was also glad to see a few natural ingredients in these products as I tend to stay away from chemical based ingredients. there’s also no alcohol in any of the formulas. which I think is important for young skin because alcohol can strip the skin of its precious oils.
Each product in the range aims to use raw effective ingredients such as
rose hip seed oil
Sweet Almond oil
They are combined with skin friendly bases that have been specially chosen for their ability to cleanse, exfoliate and brighten the skin to keep it looking clean, fresh and young. My first impressions of these products definitely had to be the packaging. A bright pink eye catching colour without being too over the top.
Peachy Perfect Gentle Face wash 100ml £12.00
Hydrating chicory extract, conditioning elderflower and skin awakening lemon, leave the complexion beautifully soft and glowing suitable for all skin types.
Usually I tend to stay away from face washes, generally because of the foaming action, I much prefer a cream cleanser because I have dry skin. The smell definitely smells of peaches and it is quite a strong smell, so if you aren't a fan of strong smelling products, then you wont like this. I personally love the smell and it really does wake you up in the morning.
When I first used this face wash, I noticed that it lathered up quite well so I immediately thought it was going to completely dry out my skin. It leaves my skin feeling very thoroughly washed and clean and it does leave my skin feeling slightly tight but not to the point where I have to rush to quickly apply a moisturiser because it feels like my skin is about to rip or turn to a crisp! (Products have made my skin feel like that before). It left my skin feeling smooth which I think is down to the tightness and effective cleansing of the face wash, but it didn't make my skin feel soft like it claimed to do. I love the packaging and the pump dispenser is very ideal as you can choose how much product you need without wasting any of it or having it leak everywhere. This face wash is a great value for money considering it is Elemis and it does pretty much a good job at taking off every scrap of makeup and you only need the tiniest amount to wash the whole face so it would last a long time. I definitely recommend people with dry skin to stay away from this as it will not help at all, I'd say that people with combination, Normal and Oily skin would be fine with it.
Would I Repurchase? No simply because I prefer cream cleansers to foaming face washes.
Make-Up Away Cleansing wipes £8 For 25 Wipes
Elemis make-up removing wipes are enriched with elderflower extract and chamomile to gently sweep away impurities whilst softening and conditioning the skin. This formulation acts as a purifying cleanser and is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
There isn't very much to say about these face wipes, other than they do the same job that most face wipes are made to do. They are soaked in just the right amount of product meaning that you only need 1 wipe to remove all of your makeup. They have a subtle pleasant smell and they didnt irritate my eyes or dry out my skin after I had used them. Face wipes should never replace face washing and cleansing because your skin needs to be washed properly with water in order to stay clear. Face wipes can be used in emergence's because if any of you are like me, when you get in from a night out, all you can think about is diving into your bed and going to sleep and makeup removal is the last thing on your mind. Then you wake up the next morning and think 'I wish I had taken my makeup off now!' So having face wipes next to your bed or in your handbag can be ideal when used occasionally. Personally I don't recommend spending £8 for a pack of 25 wipes, as I find that my Neutrogena and Nivea face wipes do exactly the same for more than half the price of the Elemis. So really face wipes are not a thing to splash out on.
Would I Repurchase? No because my cheaper face wipes do exactly the same as these do.
Skin Glow Exfoliating Face Wash 100ml £12.00
With a deep pore cleansing action, this exfoliating facial wash contains cherry powder and jojoba beads to gently polish and help refine skin texture. Enriched with mandarin and aniseed to soften and condition, leaving skin clean, brighter and more radiant.
This product from the range is definitely my favourite out of all of them because I absolutely love exfoliating my skin as it is the most essential step in every skin scare regime. Depending on your skin you should be exfoliating every day to get rid of that layer of dirt from outdoor pollution and dust and also to get rid of dry skin, encourage new skin cells and improve circulation. This product is gentle enough to use every day as the jojoba beads are not gritty they are a bit bigger so they give a good thorough scrub without being harsh and abrasive like some face scrubs.
The beads do not disappear within 10 seconds of use they stay on the skin until you wash away the cleanser. It has just the right amount of beads and they aren't too dense that if you scrub to hard it leaves your skin irritated and red. It works into a nice amount of lather and afterwards it left my skin looking soft and noticeably brighter, I was shocked when I looked in the mirror! The scent is fresh and fruity similar to the 'Peachy Perfect Gentle Face Wash' and it is again quite a strong smell but this doesn't bother me as I love the smell of these products.
This cleanser did not dry out my skin or left it feeling tight at all. This is an exfoliating face wash so it is suitable for every day use, unless you have sensitive skin then I would say use it about 2-3 times a week.
Would I Repurchase? Yes because It isn't too expensive and I love the fact that I can use it every day, It didn't break me out or left my skin dry and I loved the skin brightening results.
Softly Softly Daily Moisturiser 50ml £20
Enriched with seaweed extract, this light and non-greasy daily moisturiser helps protect and moisturise. Rosehip seed oil and sweet almond oil deliver soothing and softening qualities ensuring the skin receives an instant hydrating boost. Skin is left revitalised and more radiant.
& Dreamy Sleep Night Time Moisturiser 50ml £22
Specially formulated with a powerful liposome complex of vitamins A, C and E, this intensely hydrating night-time moisturiser improves skin radiance whilst you sleep. Blackcurrant seed oil and barley extract help to further refine skin texture and increase skin smoothness
I am going to review both of these products together because even though one is for day and one for night, I feel that both of them are very similar and do exactly the same thing as each other.
As this range is aimed for young skin so perhaps teenagers/young adults in College and University, I do believe that the prices for these moisturisers are a bit to steep especially as you only get 50ml of product. I felt that the day time moisturiser left my skin feeling slightly greasy and I think that it is a little too heavy for day time use unless you have exceptionally dry skin. I also found it hard to blend into my skin as it just wasn't soaking though, it just sat on top of my skin. I was also disappointed to find that this doesn't contain any SPF as you would expect from a daily moisturiser. I like to wear SPF in the day and as this moisturiser is supposed to be for young skin you would expect them to put an SPF in the moisturiser to keep the skin looking young. The night time moisturiser however felt much more lighter and sank into my skin nicely. I woke up with more brighter and softer looking skin in the morning. Both of these moisturisers have exactly the same smell of lavender and chamomile which I think is great for night time as the smell is relaxing.
Left-Daily Moisturiser Right- Night Time Moisturiser, as you can see the day time moisturiser looks thicker than the night time moisturiser which blended out better than the daily moisturiser.
As the daily moisturiser does not have an SPF, I just use the night time moisturiser in the day and night as I feel that both products are no different except the night time moisturiser sinks into my skin better. I don't understand why the night moisturiser is £2 more than the daily moisturiser. So i would recommend that you only buy 1 of them and do not waste your money buying both of them.
Would I Repurchase? I would only repurchase the night time moisturiser and it sinks into my skin better and I can use it in the day time and night time.
Tired Eyes Soothing Eye Rescue 15ml £15.00
This is another product in the range that disappointed me, not only is the price a little on the pricier side than what a teenager would fork out for a cream entirely for under their eyes but I also found that it didn't do very much for me either. Don't get me wrong, this gel was nice and cooling especially if you put it in the fridge for a while and it hydrated under my eyes for a whole 10 minutes (note sarcasm) and despite the small 15ml a little bit does go a long way. But I expect more from an eye cream especially if I'm paying a lot for a cream just for my eye area. I didn't find this eye gel to be very moisturising and it didn't really keep my eyes hydrated for very long. I tend to get dry eye lids and dry patches at the corner of my eyes and this didn't help at all. I also like my eye creams to be brightening as well as moisturising and I'm quite lucky that I don't suffer from puffy eyes or heavy bags but when I do get them my Origins Gin-Zing Eye Cream sorts out moisturising, de-puffing and brightening all in one go and this eye gel just doesn't live up to it. So I think that this gel is a waste of money if you want something more than just a cooling effect under the eyes.
Would I Repurchase? No, because It doesn't moisturise and hydrate my eyes for very long.
Magical Moisture Quenching Face Mask & Deep Clean Purifying Face Mask £15
3x Deep Clean Purifying Face Mask (7ml): This rebalancing facial mask has a blend of natural clays, goji berry extract and frankincense oil to help draw out impurities and refine the skin whilst vitamin E softens and soothes.
3x Magical Moisture Quenching Face Mask (7ml): This super softening mask contains white lupin, artic cranberry seed oil and apple extract to deliver an instant moisture boost to dry skin, while aloe vera gently soothes. Leaves skin radiant and exceptionally soft.
When I saw these in the range I was excited to try them as I love Face masks and I think that leaving a product on your face for longer, really helps the ingredients to soak in and do their job instead of just being on the skin for a minute and then getting washed off. Firstly the 'Deep clean purifying Face Mask' really does give your skin a deep clean and draws out any impurities deep within the skin. The consistency was very thick and when applied to the skin, it had a very nice cooling effect which I have never experienced with a clay mask before because I normally use heated clay masks. You get just the right amount of product for anyone to get a full face coverage, only I found that I got about 2 uses from each packet so I would prefer these masks to have come in squeeze tubes so no product gets wasted. The time recommended for this mask is 10 minutes during which this mask starts to harden on the skin, I left it on for longer than 10 minutes as I wanted the mask to be completely dry before I washed it off. The product is quite tricky to wash off so I'd recommend using a thick flannel to get it all off. After It had been washed off, My skin looked so clear and my skin tone looked so much more even, brighter and refreshed.
Left - Magical Moisture Mask Right - Deep Clean Purifying Face Mask
After 10 Minutes
The Magical Moisture Mask did not impress me as much. When I applied it, it felt more like a very thick moisturiser rather than a mask and I suppose a thick consistency is needed to give moisture but I found it way to oily and heavy for my skin, I couldn't wait to wash it off. Once left on the skin for 10 minutes the mask started to slightly soak into my skin but it still felt oily and greasy to touch. When I washed this mask off my skin did feel softer but I can achieve the same results quicker with my moisturiser and I didn't feel that this mask made much of a difference to the appearance either.
Would I repurchase? No, as much as I love the clay mask you get the moisture mask in the set as well so that means I would be paying £15 for only 3 sachets of the clay mask. I'll stick to my Sanctuary 5min Thermal Detox Mask which delivers the exact same results.
Loving Lips Quenching Lip Balm 10ml £8
This refreshing peppermint lip balm, is enriched with passionflower oil, sweet almond oil and vitamin E to soften and condition the lips.
I thought that this product did exceptionally well in moisturising my lips without being thick and sticky. It also looks like a lip gloss on the lips too. It smells quite strongly of peppermint and because of this I expected my lips to tingle slightly like most minty lip balms and I was quite disappointed when this one didn't tingle, this may not bother some of you. I also found that because this lip balm doesn't have a waxy texture, it is more of a light watery texture, it didn't last very long on my lips and I'd ended up just licking half of it off because the feel of it kind of annoyed me. I do prefer a thicker waxier texture such as Carmex and Vaseline which is probably why I found it too slippery on my lips. On the whole this product is perfect at moisturising and doubles up as gloss too! It is also in a squeeze tube and the opening is slanted so it fits on the lips perfectly and you don't have to use fingers or anything to apply it, which I like because it keeps it nice and hygienic!
Would I Repurchase? No, because I am just fine with my trusty Carmex that does a good job for A LOTcheaper than £8
I think that this range has defiantly tried to cover all skin types. It is also easy to understand you cleanse, exfoliate and moisturise without adding any unnecessary complications for someone that just wants to keep their skin clean and moisturised, it doesn't include anything gimmicky. This range also adds a touch of luxury to a teenagers skin care which is important to have a positive attitude towards skincare from a young age. The prices of this range are perhaps still a bit steep for cash-strapped teens but I think good skincare is well worth the investment if you want to see the benefits of it later in life. Personally I think Elemis have kept the price higher because mums who use the original elemis products may buy this range for their daughter and this range isn't readily available in shops, and the majority of teenagers dont shop on the Internet for their skincare. This range has particularly good ingredients meaning that it has nothing fussy or any thing that would send the skin haywire like traditional products that are marketed for younger skin. There are some products in this range that I would defiantly recommend:
Peachy Perfect Gentle Face wash 100ml £12.00 For those who have Oily, Combination and Normal skin
Skin Glow Exfoliating Face Wash 100ml £12.00 For every day use unless you have sensitive skin
Dreamy Sleep Night Time Moisturiser 50ml £22 OR Softly Softly Daily Moisturiser 50ml £20 If you want a heavier cream go for the day time, a lighter cream go for the night time, It would be a waste to invest in both products as they do the same things.
Loving Lips Quenching Lip Balm 10ml £8 If you like a lighter lip balm instead of waxy thicker textures, and want something that doubles up as a lip gloss too!
All of the products from the range can be found at a discounted price at Salon Skincare
